Celebrating Two UCSF School of Medicine Faculty Elected to the National Academy of Medicine for 2025

October 21, 2025 | By UCSF School of Medicine

We are pleased to announce that two outstanding UCSF School of Medicine faculty members – Christine E. Dehlendorf, MD, MAS and Tracey Woodruff, PhD, MPH – have been elected to the National Academy of Medicine (NAM) for 2025, one of the most distinguished honors in our field.

Christine E. DehlendorfDr. Dehlendorf, professor and vice chair for research in the UCSF Department of Family and Community Medicine, has been recognized for her scholarly leadership in advancing equitable, evidence-based reproductive health care and developing national quality measures that place patients’ values, dignity, and autonomy at the center of care. She is the founder and director of the Person-Centered Reproductive Health Program (PCRHP) and has created innovative tools – including an online contraceptive decision-support tool and the first patient-reported outcome performance measure of contraceptive care – to drive meaningful change. She has served as an advisor to the CDC, the U.S. Office of Population Affairs, and Planned Parenthood Federation of America, and her work has informed national policy and the National Academies’ report on abortion care in the U.S.

Tracey WoodruffDr. Woodruff, professor in UCSF’s Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology & Reproductive Sciences and director of the Program on Reproductive Health and the Environment, has been honored for her trail-blazing research on environmental determinants of maternal, child, and population health. Her work has transformed how we understand the impact of chemical exposures and pollutants on pregnancy, development, and lifelong disease, and has shaped both national and global policy on climate and environmental toxicants. She has authored seminal publications, including the first international study to link air pollution and pre-term birth, and the first to document multiple toxic chemicals in pregnant women and newborns across the United States. She previously served as a senior scientist and policy advisor at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

With their election to NAM, Drs. Dehlendorf and Woodruff join an extraordinary community of professionals who have demonstrated exceptional achievements in medical sciences, health care, and public health. Their accomplishments underscore UCSF’s commitment to advancing health equity, rigorous science, and real-world impact.

Please join us in congratulating Drs. Dehlendorf and Woodruff for this well-deserved honor.
