Graduate Training Programs

Research in the School of Medicine is catalyzed in part by our many PhD programs in basic and biomedical sciences. Students in these programs carry out research in the laboratories of faculty members in departments throughout the School of Medicine. A listing of these programs can be found at the website of the UCSF Graduate Division:

As part of our research training mission, resources are available for PhD students and other trainees interested in pursuing research careers inside and outside academia:

The School of Medicine is also the home of the UCSF Medical Scientist Training Program (MSTP) and the Pathways to Discovery program. MSTP Students receive training in clinical medicine and biomedical research, leading to a dual MD and PhD degree. Pathways  to Discovery provides career training and mentorship for students, residents, and fellows in innovation, leadership and research in one of five areas.
