At the recommendation of this committee, the dean will make awards from endowment funds donated for medical research. The committee encourages new and junior faculty to apply who have achieved independent status and who show need for funds to initiate and develop their own research before extramural support is available.

Although there is no formal limit to budget requests, the committee discourages research applications requiring budgets greater than $30,000. Requests above that amount should include specific justification.
Applicants are requested to comment in their budget justification whether the proposed study overlaps in any way with current or pending applications. Co-funding with other agencies is considered for non-overlapping budgets. All budgets must be justified.
REAC, working with the Clinical and Translational Sciences Institute (CTSI), is encouraging applications in the area of clinical and translational research. Clinical research includes trials and studies in human subjects. Proposals in all types of translational research are encouraged.
