On September 11-12, 2013, the UCSF community is invited to engage with the 36-hour UCSF 2025 game to generate bold ideas that could reinvent the structure of a health sciences university. Everyone with a passion for our missions and for UCSF’s future is expected to participate.

UCSF's Resource Allocation Program (RAP), which incorporates a single online application process for a wide variety of intramural grant offerings, is now inviting applications for the Fall 2013 cycle.
The electronic-submission deadline is Monday, Sept. 30 at 2 p.m.

Information Technology has launched its second IT innovation Contest geared toward developing quick and creative solutions that will have significant impact. Submissions are accepted through October 10.

In September, the UCSF Library deploys EZproxy, a new method for off-campus access to online resources. EZproxy eliminates issues that exist when using web VPN with MyNCBI and NEJM. It will also improve access to library resources on mobile devices.  More info.

The Office of Sponsored Research (OSR) has launched its new website. OSR includes the Research Development Office (RDO), Research Management Services (RMS) and Government and Business Contracts (GBC). If you have any questions or suggestions about the site, please contact Claudia Carlson.

Elizabeth Blackburn, PhD, was honored with a Giants of Cancer Care Award for her work in genetics.

Elaine Chow and Sylvia DeCourcey are the recipients of the Academy of Medical Educators Boyden Award for exemplary service in support of medical education.

Eric Collison, MD and Karunesh Ganguly, MD, PhD were among the 16 physician-scientists selected to receive 2013 Clinical Scientist Development Awards from the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation.

Paul Day was awarded the San Francisco Human Rights Commission’s “HERO” Award.

Paul Francis, MD, FAAP, FACC; Edward Kim, MD; Jolie Limon, MD, FAAP; Patricia O'Sullivan, EdD; Arianne Teherani, PhD; and Lori Weichenthal, MD, FACEP will be inducted into the Academy of Medical Educators on September 23.

Monica Gandhi, MD, MPH, received the John L. Ziegler Outstanding Mentor Award.

Cynthia Fuhrmann, PhD and Bill Lindstaedt were part of the team that created the myIDP online career planning tool which won the AAMC Award for Innovative Institutional Partnerships in Research and Research Focused Training.

Sandra Hernandez, MD was named president and CEO of the California HealthCare Foundation (CHCF).

Millie Hughes-Fulford, PhD, and Thomas Lang, PhD, were honored by NASA for top discoveries in microgravity.

Benjamin Kim was selected for the American Society of Hematology (ASH)  Clinical Research Training Institute (CRTI).

Daniel Lowenstein, MD, received the Ambassador for Epilepsy Award.

Nicole Santos, PhD, MS, received the John L. Ziegler Outstanding Capstone Award.

May Szeto was selected as a Hematology Opportunities for the Next Generation of Research Scientists (HONORS) award recipient.

UCSF Profiles received a University of California Larry L. Sautter Award for IT innovation.

Elizabeth Watkins, PhD, dean of the UC San Francisco's Graduate Division, was named Vice Chancellor of Student Academic Affairs, effective August 1.

Louise Walter, MD, was appointed Chief, Division of Geriatrics within the Department of Medicine.



William Young, MD, the James P. Livingston Endowed Chair in the Department of Anesthesia and Perioperative Care, passed away on August 1, 2013 after suffering from cancer for some time.
