The SOM Dean’s Office has launched two pilot projects that resulted from the 2013 School of Medicine Leadership Retreat: Bureaucracy Busters: Making Work Life Easier and the Innovation Lab. The goal for both projects is to identify challenges, big and small, to which we can deliver solutions within six months to a year. Submissions are accepted through October 9 for Bureaucracy Busters and October 25 for Innovation Lab.

Medical Education has announced their free Fall quarter faculty development workshop lineup. Registration is now open.

It is time for your annual flu shot. Free drop-in clinics are offered at various campuses from 9/30-11/14.

A group of Medical Education staff led by Christian Burke were among the winners of the Open IDEO challenge: "How might we all maintain wellbeing and thrive as we age?”.

Congratulations to the 56 faculty members who were honored with an Excellence in Teaching Award from the Haile T. Debas Academy of Medical Educators.

The UCSF National Center of Excellence in Women's Health is one of 18 winners of the 2013 Healthy Mothers Workplace Award

Nancy Adler, PhD, has been appointed co-chair of the Institute of Medicine’s Committee on Recommended Social and Behavioral Domains and Measures for Electronic Health Records.

Jonah Chan, PhD, won the Barancik Prize for multiple sclerosis research.

Gurpreet Dhaliwal, MD; Dan Null, MD; Jonathan Terdiman, MD, and Lisa Winston, MD, were named as the newest members of the Council of Master Clinicians in the Department of Medicine.

Shawn Douglas, PhD, won a National Science Foundation (NSF) award for his molecular programing project.

Erika Flores Uribe, a medical student at UCSF Fresno received the Christine A. Geehrer Inspiration in Medicine Award.

Chas Salmen, a fourth-year medical student, was announced as one of two winners of the $28,000 Pisacano Leadership Foundation (PLF) scholarship.

Kristine Yaffe, MD, was selected as the recipient of the Thirteenth Annual Faculty Research Lectureship – Clinical Science.



Thomas McAfee, MD, former Dean of UCSD, was killed in a tragic accident while on vacation in Africa on September 7, 2013.
