Medical school is arduous and parenthood is even more daunting. Our parent graduates in the Class of 2015 deserve a round of applause – and a long nap.


Talmadge King, Jr., MD, was named the new dean of the School of Medicine, effective July 1.

Nominations are open until September 15 for the Mechthild Esser Nemmers Prize in Medical Science at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. The biennial prize awards $200,000 to those whose body of research exhibits outstanding achievement in medical science as demonstrated by works of lasting significance. Nominations from experts in the field and institutional nominations are welcome; self-nominations will not be accepted.

It’s election time for UCSF Staff Assembly Executive Board positions! UCSF Staff Assembly advises leadership on matters of staff concern and facilitates communication. All UCSF non-represented employees (campus and medical center) are eligible to vote. Submit your ballot no later than 11:59 p.m. Sunday, June 14.

From June 1 and July 1, the Haile T. Debas Academy of Medical Educators invites you to submit a nomination for the 2015 Academy of Medical Educators Excellence in Teaching Awards for UCSF teaching faculty. These peer-nominated awards are intended to highlight outstanding front-line teachers of medical students, residents, and fellows at all UCSF teaching sites that might otherwise go unrecognized

The Spring 2015 issue of the Department of Medicine’s newsletter Frontiers of Medicine is now available.

The UCSF STAR (Service, Training, Advocacy & Research) Center for Autism Spectrum Disorder and Neurodevelopmental Disabilities is offering an advanced/research training workshop (7/25-27) for the second edition of the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (ADOS-2).

Shelley Adler, PhD will be interim director of the Osher Center for Integrative Medicine while Margaret Chesney, PhD, is on administrative leave as director. Dr. Chesney will continue working as an active faculty member on projects at the Osher Center.

Mallar Bhattacharya, MD, was named assistant director of the RAPtr (Resource Allocation Program for Trainees) program.
