Quality Assurance/QA You will perform Quality Assurance/QA on your pages twice, first on integration then on Staging before it goes live. (Or three times, if you count checking it again on Production, after it has gone live.) In both cases the QA is performed by looking at the page in a browser. First, spot check for any obvious errors, then go over your page more thoroughly. Look for: Check to be sure that your content is not so wide that it breaks the overall formatting of the page. Remember, your content may be no more than 415 pixels in width. This applies to tables, images, URL's and any other content item. In this example, the orange content table is 525 pixels wide, notice how the edge of the content area extends past the navigation bar on the right. This content will need to be resized.
Long URL's can also be too wide and impact the formatting. Be sure not to spell out URL's (especially long ones). Instead write descriptive URL's. Note: The content area is already formatted to be 415 pixels wide. You will not need to use additional table formatting to constrain it to that width. Run Xenu (the freeware link checker) over the page by entering its URL or by browsing to it. f it turns up a broken links, return to the page on integration. Search for the links in question and correct them. Also check that your page properly links to all images, PDF's etc. Remember to upload them to the Staging server along with the page you have created. It is quite common to simply push up the page and omit to push up the files it links to, causing broken links or 'busted' images. Important: Run Xenu on your site regularly to check for broken links, especially if you are linking to other sites. We recommend running Xenu no less than monthly. If your site contains many links, we recommend checking your site weekly. Correct Use of Sitetitles, Headers and Subheaders Please review the style guidelines to understand the proper use of these elements. |
