the WebUpdate Tool In order to view new or updated pages on the live site, you must transfer them from your work area (integration) to the live site (production). Before the pages arrive at the live site, they will reside on an intermediary server (staging), where you will perform your final QA. The public does not have access to view files on integration or staging.
The URL for the WebUpdate Tool is: http://tools.medschool.ucsf.edu/webupdate/ Type in the same user name and password which you use to log in to your computer. Note: If you are on the campus domain (rather than the SOM domain), you will need to enter your domain\password combination in the User Name field. (Ex: campus\wongl) You may be presented with either of the two formats below.
or
Note: You may be presented with a login screen with a pre-populated login containing medschool.ucsf.edu as demonstrated below. Be sure to overwrite this with your correct domain\login ie. som\login.
Once you have logged in you will be presented with the WUT tool interface. Locate your site in the left hand column. Click on the site title, then
use the plus
The right hand side displays the files in the folder you have selected. If there is a difference between a file you have on integration and the analgous one on staging, the file will be highlighted in red.
Select each file you would like to upload by checking the box which precedes it. Remember that if you are linking to PDF's, or adding images, you must send those up too! You can select one or several files in the webupdate tool by browsing to another directory, selecting other files and repeating. Click on the button labelled "transfer files" located at the bottom right.
Double check your selection on the confirmation page. Transfer the file to staging by clicking on "yes".
The next screen confirms that your files have been uploaded to staging. You may link to your files to QA them on staging from here.
Important: Please be thorough and check your pages for formatting and broken links on staging. If there's a problem on staging it will also turn up on production the next morning, so this is your last chance to get it right! Your pages reflect on the prestige and professionalism of the School of Medicine. Immediately after uploading your pages, you will recieve an email confirmation, it will contain links to your pages on staging. View and QA your pages on staging.
Note that the Webresources team (and ISU) will also recieve copies of this email. We will spot check pages for QA , but you are responsible for your content and work. If you need to make alterations to your page, return to integration and edit with DreamWeaver. Follow the same uploading process again. Step Three: Check your page on the live site From the staging server your pages will be automatically updated to the live site, once a day at 10AM. The process takes about 20 minutes. Check your pages on the live site the morning following your update. If your files do not appear on the live site after 10:30AM, please let us know immediately and we will rectify the situation. If you have any difficulties, please do not hesitate to contact ISU. |
