Protecting Secure Content

The Web Resources program offers two options for protecting secure content.
  • Restricted access by IP address. Users on computers outside UCSF will not see these pages. Users within UCSF (including those at remote locations or those using a UCSF VPN client) will see this content. This content actually lives in a separate site, the School of Medicine intranet.
  • Restricted access through a password. Applications with protected data use a password mechanism to control access.

Linking to Protected Content

All links to protected content--whether protected by password OR content on the intranet--should have an indication that the content is protected.

Using DreamWeaver, copy and paste the secure lock image () from the libraries located in the templates folder. For an explanation on using this and other preformatted elements please see the tutorial entitled Using Preformatted Library Items and CSS.

For an example of the use of the lock icon, please see the For Staff and Faculty page.
