WebWorkers Meeting Agenda

Tuesday, Nov 1, 2005

  1. Updates to the School of Medicine Search
Beth will update us on progress on the School of Medicine Search.

  2. Upcoming server migration
We will be moving all the School of Medicine files to a new server at the end of November. We are taking this opportunity to effectuate a global clean up of sites, removing any old, outdated or extraneous files. Along with the changes to your pages and to your templates, I have sent the webworkers lists of orphaned files and broken links.

Please have your sites cleaned up by Wednesday, November 30. Please let me know when you have done so and be sure to call on me for any help you may require.
  3. Template Changes
Your templates and pages have been upgraded so that you can now add metadata. Doing so is very simple, and I have written a tutorial on the subject.

  4. Review File Naming Conventions
We will review the conventions and then take a look at a couple of sites and 'critique' the file-naming that we see there. If the audience wishes we can critique individual sites as well.

  5. Keywords and Searching
Metadata are only a fraction of what improves your search results. Other factors are page title, page content, hyperlinks and alt tags. Each of these relies on keywords. We will explore what makes good keywords and will do an exercise together. The goal of the exercise is for you to leave the meeting with a full set of keywords for any particular page on your site.
