General Information

UCSF Visiting Student ID: A UCSF picture ID is now required while on UCSF property or at affiliate hospitals. If you are scheduled to take an elective at either our Parnassus campus or Mt Zion, you will need to purchase an ID through the UCSF Police Department. The Office of Curricular Affairs (OCA) will give you a form that you need to take to the UCSF Police Department, Millberry Union West, “G” level. As it takes at least 48 hours after you check in with OCA for you to get entered into the system, you should wait to go to the UCSF Police Department. $35.00 fee.

Temporary ID: When you check in with the Office of Curricular Affairs, you will receive a temporary paper UCSF Visiting Student ID. This temporary paper ID lists your SAA User ID (MSV….) and will allow you access to the Clinical Display System (CDS – STOR) at Moffitt and Long Hospitals; daytime use of the ILC computer labs in Library Room 231 and Medical Sciences Room S165; and daytime use of the computers and phones in the Medical Student Lounge, Medical Sciences Room S245. Also, this temporary paper ID allows you to receive reduced rates at the Millberry Union Gym ( 500 Parnassus Avenue).

Library Access: Visiting medical students are welcome to use the general collections and public computers in the campus Library. They are not eligible for UCSF only materials, services, or discounts.

Student Union Privileges: The Student Union (including Millberry Union Fitness Center) is available to visiting medical students who present either their UCSF Visiting Student ID or their temporary paper ID with a valid photo ID from their medical school.

Parking: UCSF and affiliate hospitals do not provide parking for visiting medical students. Parking at the main UCSF campus (Parnassus Heights) and San Francisco General Hospital is extremely difficult so you should make arrangements to use public transportation.

Pagers: The University does not provide pagers. Some departments provide students with pagers, but this is negotiated between the student and department.

UCSF Affiliate Hospitals: UCSF teaching sites and affiliate hospitals, addresses and listing.

UCSF Campus Maps: Download maps of the various UCSF campuses.

Housing: UCSF does not have on-campus housing. The Housing Services office (J Level, Millberry Union) maintains a listing of off-campus, privately owned apartments, flats, houses, rooms and various types of shared accommodations. These listings are received from the community and are not inspected by the University.

The Housing Services office maintains a listing of housing and a listing of nearby guesthouses. These are not affiliated with UCSF in any manner and are listed solely on the basis of proximity to the campus. We cannot recommend, guarantee, or be responsible for any of these accommodations.  Browse the long-term or short-term housing options.
