Teaching Scholars Program
is
currently Fresno County Public Health Officer and acting director of
the health department in Fresno county. He received his undergraduate
degree from the University of Notre Dame prior to attending UCSF School
of Medicine. As Assistant Clinical Professor with UCSF Fresno Department
of Pediatrics he served as resident advisor and continuity clinic instructor.
He acted as site coordinator for the UCSF Fresno medical student pediatric
core clerkship from 1997 to 2002. From 1999 to 2003 he completed a HRSA
funded Minority Faculty Fellow Program supported by the UCSF Fresno
Latino Center for Medical Education and Research. In 1999 he developed
an annual 14-hour seminar series in clinical teaching for resident physicians
modeled after the Stanford University Faculty Development Program in
Clinical Teaching. In 2000 he developed and implemented the web-based
E*Value evaluation system for the UCSF Fresno Pediatric Residency Training
Program. He has also designed and implemented an annual 32-hour faculty
development course for UCSF Fresno faculty modeled after Dr. David Irby's
UCSF Teaching Scholars Program. He continues to instruct resident physicians
in the area of health promotion and disease prevention.
