Teaching Scholars Program

Lisanne Burkholder, MD MPH (TSP 2001-2002) works at Asian Health Services, a community clinic in Oakland. Until 2002, Dr. Burkholder was an Assistant Clinical Professor of Medicine and Associate Program Director for the Primary Care Medicine Residency at UCSF. She received her Bachelor of Science from Yale College, spent two years in the Peace Corps in Liberia, then obtained her medical degree from UCSF. She completed her Primary Care Internal Medicine residency at the University of Washington, where she then served as a Chief Resident, and then as an Acting Instructor on the Faculty. During her time in Seattle she co-edited Guide to Internal Medicine, a clerkship syllabus for the 3rd year Internal Medicine Clerkship, and is currently revising this text for a second edition with the help of colleagues at UCSF and UW. At UCSF she precepted students and residents in the General Medicine Practices and on the inpatient wards, where she encouraged bedside and exam room, patient-centered discussions about patients' care. She also planned curriculum for a physical exam course, for resident well-being retreats and for student longitudinal clinic experiences.
