Teaching Scholars Program
is an Associate Clinical Professor in the Department of Psychiatry.
She has been on the staff of San Francisco General Hospital since 1989
in various positions, including Women's Team leader, attending physician
in Psychiatric Emergency Services, and Unit Chief overseeing the Latino
and Women's Focus Inpatient Programs. Currently she is the medical director
of Bridge to Wellness, an intensive outpatient day treatment program.
Her long-standing interest in medical student and resident education
led her to develop a course on cultural issues in psychiatry, and she
co-led the core curriculum course for third year medical students at
SFGH for nearly ten years. Current interests include cultural and psychological
issues in end-of-life care. Dr. Brainin-Rodriguez received her MD at
UCSF, completed an internship in Medicine at SFGH, worked as a GP for
the National Health Service Corps, then later completed her residency
in Psychiatry at St. Mary's Hospital in San Francisco.
