Teaching Scholars Program

Joan E. Etzell, MD (TSP 2006-2007) is an Associate Professor of Clinical Laboratory Medicine. After graduating from Stanford University, she attended medical school and then did her Anatomic and Clinical Pathology residency training at UCSF. She completed a Hematopathology fellowship at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis and is currently the Director of the Clinical Hematology Laboratory at Moffitt-Long. As a clinician-educator, she is the Director of the Hematopathology fellowship, Associate Director of the Laboratory Medicine residency training program, and Director of a medical student clinical elective in laboratory hematology at Moffitt-Long. She also participates in teaching on hematopoiesis and hematological disorders in the first two years of the medical student curriculum, including facilitating a small group discussion during the Cancer Block. Dr. Etzell received the faculty teaching award in the Department of Laboratory Medicine in 2000, 2001, and 2005.
