Spring 2011
Greetings from the Dean
Dear Alumni:
David Vlahov
I am delighted to start as dean of the UCSF School of Nursing and to transition from referring to the school as "they" to "we." The excellence of the school is a beacon to the profession and academic nursing, and I will do everything in my power to continue and expand upon this tradition.
The school owes much of its success to you, our alumni. I have had the privilege of working with School of Nursing alumni during my career and have always been impressed with your dedication and professionalism. I feel fortunate to be at the helm of an institution anchored by such an inspiring group.
One of my goals as dean is to meet as many alumni as possible to hear your thoughts about the direction of the school. Your unique perspective as nurses educated here – including how your UCSF experience and training have served you in your career – will no doubt provide valuable insight. It will also help me communicate to the rest of University about the richness of the nursing school culture.
Alumni are more important than ever to our mission. We are facing broad challenges that are coming with shrinking federal and state budgets. But we are also being presented with opportunities built into health care reform. With your support, I know we will surmount every challenge and reach new heights in patient care, research and education.
I look forward to meeting you. Thank you for all that you do for UCSF.
