UCSF offers medical students a wealth of opportunities to do research.
Approximately 30% of the students in each class use the summer following
the first year to do a two-month project.
Some of these research projects are very successful and become the basis
for a thesis in the M.D. with Thesis Program.
Programs include:
A very small number of students start a part-time research project during
the first year. For summer research projects, begin looking for a sponsor
in January when the Dean’s office announces its summer research program.
If you wish to start a project during the year and require assistance
finding a sponsor, email the the Student Research Program Coordinator
