Salary
While in our program, residents alternate between two pay sources—UCSF and the City and County of San Francisco. Parity is maintained between the two sources.
UC pays the following, along with a $500 per month housing stipend funded by the UCSF Medical Center (thus increasing annual income by $6000).

Vacation
All residents receive four weeks of vacation leave
per year.
Insurance
UCSF provides medical, dental, and vision insurance to residents and their dependents—including domestic partners. An HMO plan is offered at no cost to residents; a traditional indemnity plan is also offered and requires a premium co-payment by resident.
Residents received long-term disability and life insurance coverage at no cost.

Moving
Stipend
The UCSF Office of Graduate Medical Education provides a $2400 moving
stipend to all new residents.
Housing Stipend
The UCSF Medical Center provides a $500 per month housing stipend to residents paid via UC payroll. Equity for residents paid via SFGH payroll has been achieved with a salary raise.
Bilingual Pay
The City and County of San Francisco offers a small stipend to bilingual
residents fluent in any of a number of languages spoken by our patient
population, including Spanish, Tagolog, Cantonese, Mandarin, Russian,
and Vietnamese.
Resident Union
The residents based at SFGH are represented by the Committee of Interns and Residents,
an affiliate of the Service Employees International Union (CIR/SEIU). Historically,
our residents have played active roles in the union leadership. To learn

Millbery Union Fitness Center
Fitness Center memberships are available
for a modest fee. Millberry Union also sponsors recreational programs
and classes. It is located at UCSF's Moffitt-Long Campus.
Bakar Fitness and Recreation Center
Fitness Center memberships are available for a modest fee. Bakar Fitness also sponsors recreational programs and classes. It is located at UCSF Mission Bay Campus.
