Excellence. Dedication. Commitment.

Our program's primary mission is to prepare family physicians for practice in urban underserved areas. The principal continuity training site and the large majority of rotation sites are located within the publicly funded Community Health Network of San Francisco (CHN) and San Francisco General Hospital, which serve a diverse population of San Franciscans. Family medicine residents develop skills, knowledge, and attitudes necessary for working effectively with patients and families of diverse racial, ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds. Residents benefit from providing greatly needed health care and from the pride and inspiration that their service engenders.

A successful candidate for our residency program demonstrates:

  • Excellence in clinical and academic skills
  • Dedication to Family Medicine
  • Commitment to working with underserved communities

We are accepting applications for 13 PGY1 positions for the 2010-2011 academic year. All residency program positions are filled through the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP).

Applications must be submitted through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS™) by Tuesday, October 13th. (Medical School Performance Evaluations will be accepted up to November 16th.) No paper applications will be accepted.

Please contact your designated Dean's or Student Affairs Office for information and assistance or visit the ERAS™ web site.

We welcome the opportunity to review all applications. There are no minimum criteria nor restrictions on who may apply to our program.

The following materials are required to complete your application:

  • Common Application Form
  • Personal Statement
  • Three (3) letters of reference; recommendations from family physicians are especially encouraged
