Year 3

Dermatology (4 Weeks)

Residents evaluate and treat patients under the supervision of a Dermatology Attending faculty at SFGH and develop skills in diagnosis and management of common dermatological conditions.

Family Practice Inpatient Service (8 Weeks)

Residents have primary responsibility for the care of hospitalized adults. The service is composed of two teams, each of which includes two PGY1’s, one PGY2, one PGY3, and one family physician faculty member. Residents are on-call every fourth night, and have primary responsibility for the supervision of FP PGY1’s. A night shift resident helps with admissions beginning at 9 pm.

Gynecology (8 Weeks)

In this rotation, at Highland General Hospital in Oakland, residents are supervised by OB/Gyn faculty members and gain advanced experience in outpatient management of common gynecologic problems.  An optional experience in pregnancy termination is available through SFGH’s Women’s Options Center.

Pediatric Clinic (4 Weeks)

Residents participate in the evaluation of children presenting with acute and urgent problems at SFGH’s Children’s Health Center.  They work alongside pediatric residents and upper level Family Practice Residents, and participate in daily didactic sessions on primary care and urgent care topics in pediatrics. Residents work 10-hour shifts.

Electives (12 Weeks)

Residents collaborate with their faculty advisor to select areas for elective rotations.

Subspecialties

This rotation based at SFGH and at Moffitt Hospital includes experiences in the outpatient management of patients with ENT and GI problems.

Urology

This rotation based at SFGH and includes experiences in the outpatient management of urological problems in men and women.  Residents are supervised by attendings from OB/Gyn in the Urogynecology Clinic, and by Attendings and senior residents in the Urology Clinic.
