UCSF School of Medicine Policy on Student Evaluation of Courses and Teachers for Essential Core Courses

1. Students are required to complete course and teacher evaluations within two weeks of the end of each block course. First-year Foundations of Patient Care (FPC) students are required to complete course and group facilitator evaluations midway through the year and at the end of the year. Second-year FPC students will complete these evaluations at the end of the year.

2. All students will complete evaluations of all of their small group facilitators.

3. Students will be randomly assigned to complete full evaluations of the course, main lectures, and labs.

4. Student responses to evaluation questions will not be linked to their names.

5. Students' final examination scores will be released once 70% of the class has completed the assigned evaluations (overall course, lecturers, and small group facilitators). However, students in academic difficulty will be notified immediately to initiate remedial assistance. Aggregate numeric ratings of the course will be posted on the secure iROCKET web site after evaluations are closed.

6. A limited number of randomly selected students will be assigned to provide focused feedback to each block course. These feedback teams, will meet in the middle of the block and course faculty will be present.

a. The mid-course feedback team will meet with course directors to share ideas.

b. The OET will track, review and report the number of evaluations that each student is expected to complete during the academic year, and will periodically report this information to the Advisory College mentors.
