UCTV Now Available on Google Video
Archives Include Treasure of UCSF Programs
03.13.06

More than 1,000 hours of UCTV programming will soon be available for free downloading and viewing on the recently launched Google Video service, the largest collection of educational video content to date on Google.

UCTV delivers documentaries, faculty lectures, research symposiums and artistic performances from each of the ten UC campuses, including UCSF.

Although UCTV is available nationwide on Dish Network satellite, cable and online, the UCTV producers hope their presence on the Google Video search engine will expand UCTV’s reach to millions more web users worldwide.

Med Ed Hour

Among the series produced by UCTV is the Med Ed Hour, aimed at physicians, nurses and other health care professionals who wish to expand their knowledge, keep current on the latest research, and in some cases, earn Continuing Medical Education credit.

The Med Ed Hour airs on UCTV every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from noon to 1:00pm (Pacific Time) and covers the latest developments in health care. Like most other UCTV programs, it can also be downloaded on demand.

Video on Demand

All of the archives of UCTV programs are also available as video-on-demand, including an extensive section on health and medicine for professionals. Programs include many past lectures and lecture series that originated at UCSF -- an opportunity for faculty, staff and students to catch up with events they might have missed.

Specific UCSF series that have their own series pages:

The archives also include general science programs, arts and music, business, education, humanities and public affairs.

Spanish-English Programs

UCTV's website features an extensive section with programs that were translated into Spanish. One particular series, La Ciencia Si Importa (Science Matters), offers a section entitled Explore y Descubre (Explore & Discover) which features video segments that can be watched in Quicktime with a choice of both narration and subtitles in either English or Spanish -- a feature of interest for viewers wishing to expand their science vocabulary in either language.

The news and highlights section offers new and repeat visitors a quick overview of recently added programs and features.
