2008 Summer Photo Contest: Diversity

Diversity -- it is one of these words that may have as many shades as there are people. What does diversity mean to you? How and where do you see diversity at UCSF? What is the role diversity plays in education, patient care, research, or other activities? Can you capture any big or small moments where diversity is important, where it makes a difference?

We are looking for new and original images that portray "Diversity at UCSF."

All current School of Medicine staff, faculty, fellows, postdocs, residents and students are invited to participate in this contest.

Photos will be judged anonymously by a panel that will include editors and photographers. Points will be given for originality, visual and emotional impact, and technical quality. Winners' photos will be displayed outside of the Dean's Office on Parnassus and on the school website. (See last year's contest)

Bear Hug Gift Certificates in the amounts of $50, $40, and $25 will be awarded to the top three entries.

To participate, please closely read and observe these guidelines:

Please submit a maximum of 3 (three) images, along with a one-paragraph caption for each image to explain the context. For email submission, images must be sized 4x6 in. @ 300 ppi. Submit photos and text to Editorial@medsch.ucsf.edu Subject line must read: 2008 Photo Contest Original should be at least 8x12 in.@ 300 ppi to be included in the display outside the Dean's Office. Please do not email any full-size originals until we ask you to do so! Images must be photographed by SOM employees (faculty or staff) or students. People portrayed recognizably must sign a photo release. If patients are shown in any way, they must sign a patient media release. Deadline for submission is August 15, 2008. Winners and honorable mentions agree to release copyright of their submissions for credited, uncompensated use on UCSF and affiliated websites and publications. Only submissions from current students or employees of the UCSF School of Medicine can be accepted.
