The journey to graduation can be particularly challenging for students who are the first in their family to go to college. Read the story of three of these students.
Four Technology Transformation grants were awarded to School of Medicine teams competing for a $100K pool. Winning proposals ranged from using commercially available fitness trackers in cognitive assessments to creating a new app for symptom management, adding features and content to a quality improvement initiative based on gamification, and using LinkedIn data to help illustrate career paths for PhDs.
The joint UC Berkeley / UCSF Master of Translational Medicine (MTM) program is seeking novel technological solutions to unmet clinical needs as projects for the 2014-15 academic year. Deadline is June 30.

HONORS and APPOINTMENTS
Craig Cohen, MD, MPH; Alan Gelb, MD; Erick Hung, MD; Michael A. Steinman, MD; Jonathan Weissman, PhD; and Kristine Yaffe, MD, were honored with Academic Senate awards.
At the School of Medicine Convocation on May 12, clinical faculty teaching awards were presented to Eleanor Drey, Adeena Khan, John Koo, Yvonne Ou and Mark Rollins, and to residents (TEACH Awards) Michael Ivan, Rebecca Lindsay, Timothy Poore, Geoffrey Stetson and Megan Swanson.
The SOM’s Academic Affairs office announce the appointment of Paul A. García, MD, as Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and Faculty Development.
