| Registration Policy
Starting in Winter Quarter 2007, the following practice regarding registration
and enrollment applies to all students in the School of Medicine.
The Office of Admission & Registrar (OAR) sends notices of registration
to each student’s home (local) address approximately six weeks prior
to the beginning of each quarter. This notice contains registration information
and instructions, including deadline dates for filing “intent to
register” and payment of fees. Explicit instructions are also given
for online access to student academic affairs where a student may review
his/her fee statement, study list, grades, expected graduation term, and
registration “holds.” In addition, the Office of Curricular
Affairs in the School of Medicine sends several notices (via the Weekly
Reader and class listserves) prior to and at the beginning of the quarter,
reminding students about registration, fee payment and study list deadlines.
These reminders also inform students of the consequences for failing to
meet those deadlines.
As of Winter Quarter 2007, the Office of Curricular Affairs will no longer
routinely contact individual students to remind them of their registration
and enrollment obligations. Rather, the Office of Curricular Affairs will
review the Registrar’s list of students who have failed to meet
the stated registration deadlines (including full payment of fees) within
a day or two after the deadline. Upon receipt of this list, the Office
of Curricular Affairs will notify these students and their course or clerkship
directors that they may not attend classes or clerkships until their registration
obligations have been accomplished.
For students who miss the registration deadline: S/he must first fulfill
the Registrar’s requirements for registration (including payment
of late fees) and then submit a request in writing to Associate Dean Loeser
for permission to return to classes. A copy of the student’s request
and response from the associate dean will be placed in the student’s
file. If a student registers late for more than one quarter and therefore
files more than one request for permission to return to classes, s/he
may receive an institutional physicianship form for failing to meet administrative
responsibilities.
