Niemann-Pick Disease

Type B Niemann-Pick disease: The Liver and Spleen

A suspicion of NPD often arises because of the presence of hepatosplenomegaly (enlargement of the liver and spleen) on physical examination. In people with type B NPD, hepatosplenomegaly is generally present and may appear as early as infancy or as late as adulthood. The degree of liver and spleen enlargement varies greatly from person to person with type B NPD.
