The University of California, San Francisco/San Francisco General Hospital Latino Mental Health Research Program
is seeking student research assistants
INVESTIGATORS: Ricardo F. Muñoz, Ph.D., Yan Leykin, Ph.D.
STIPEND: $6000 stipend for the year ($500 per month) will be paid to all selected volunteers.
START DATE: July 1, 2009 (preferable) END DATE: June 30, 2010
REQUIRED:
- Research assistants must be willing and able to commit 12+ scheduled hours per week. These include a mandatory weekly team meeting, currently scheduled on Thursday afternoons, 3:00-5:00 p.m at San Francisco General Hospital (1001 Potrero Avenue, San Francisco). The location, day, and time of other shifts are flexible.
- Excellent verbal and written command of both English and Spanish. Bilingual (Spanish/English) and bicultural individuals strongly encouraged to apply.
- Knowledge of simple statistics, some experience with statistical (SPSS) and spreadsheet (Excel) programs.
- Good attendance, and strong communication and interpersonal skills. Professional attention to detail including ability to process and organize numerical data is essential.
- Experience with Web development, including personal Websites, is highly desirable.
- A strong desire to assist in reducing health disparities globally, combining psychology and technology (e.g., evidence-based Internet interventions).
- Willingness to become a member of the Latino Research Team and to acquire new skills and knowledge.
AVAILABLE POSITIONS:
- Smoking Cessation Web Study (1 position)
- Assist in managing Spanish- and English-language participants via the Web.
- Assist with testing new site features and functionality in Spanish/English for a worldwide clinical trial. (Over 52,000 participants from 170 countries have become official participants of earlier trials.}
- Respond to email queries in English/Spanish. Generate data tables and reports from the study.
- Depression Prevention Course (1 position)
- Assist in constructing and testing the functionality of a Spanish/English Internet intervention designed to help people worldwide prevent depression by learning to manage their mood using cognitive-behavioral methods.
- Assist with usability testing with patients at SFGH
- Respond to email queries in English/Spanish.
- Generate data tables and reports from the study
- Depression Management Course (1 position)
- Assist in constructing and testing the functionality of a Spanish/English Internet intervention designed to help people worldwide manage their existing depression by using cognitive-behavioral methods.
- Assist with usability testing with patients at SFGH
- Respond to email queries in English/Spanish.
- Generate data tables and reports from the study
