Web Hosting Requirements Operational Services and Limitations Capacity Limits Individual sites hosted on the SOM Web server generally will be limited to the following resources: Hard drive space: 150 MB Database space (MS SQL Server 7.0, 2000): 150 MB CPU Usage: Should not exceed 10% of total server CPU capacity. Web applications generally consume these resources. The usage can be determined during the testing phase of these applications by reviewing the CPU Performance Monitor spike while invoking the application. Bandwidth The website should not draw such a large number of hits or require processing that would significantly hinder the performance of other SOM applications or compromise network performance. Backup and Data Security Nightly tape backups are provided for all Web server progams, files, directories and databases. Backups are preserved for two weeks. To restore data from tape, the full Friday backup tape plus the tape that corresponds to the dated file being sought are needed. A file restoration takes approximately 2-4 hours. A data lag exists depending on the outage/disaster of 1-7 days. Tapes are stored in the server rooms at Laurel Heights and Medical Sciences Building . Tapes are stored in a lockable, lateral file cabinet at Laurel Heights and in a fireproof box while in the Medical Sciences server room. One week of tapes are stored at the Medical Sciences location. All other tapes are stored at Laurel Heights . Completed backups are moved from Parnassus to Laurel Heights each day. A week's worth of tapes are moved from Laurel Heights to Parnassus on Monday. Communicating Web Server Outages Refer to the Service Level Agreement (SLA) for more information on scheduled outages, site monitor, and unscheduled outages. Response Time For System Failures Refer to the Service Level Agreement (SLA) for information on response time for system outages. Web Server Access Departments will be granted security access to write and update their website files directly to the integration server. Departments then use the WUT (Web Update Tool) application to move the files to the staging server. A department's website files will be organized under a Microsoft NT file directory. An NT workgroup (a group of users that carry the same access privileges to the same directories) will be created for each directory. Each approved departmental user will be assigned an NT account and this account will in turn be assigned to the appropriate workgroup(s) to establish user access to files. Each NT account will have a unique userid and password. New NT accounts will not be necessary for departmental users currently logging into the SOM domain and utilizing the School of Medicine 's file, print, or e-mail services; the same account credentials (userid and password) can be used for updating your site. Additionally, SOM domain users will be able to change their passwords via their current domain logon interface. Technical Requirements and Procedures: Web Servers Microsoft Internet Information Server (IIS). This server hosts several departmental websites in addition to the main School of Medicine website. Application Servers Microsoft Internet Information Server also functions as an application server. The following extensions are supported by IIS natively: HTM & HTML (Hyper Text Markup Language) ASP (Active Server Pages) and Microsoft's newest technology, ASP .Net CSS (Cascading Style Sheets) This application server supports the popular file extensions used by most Web applications and acts as an integrated part of the Web server. Code and Scripting Languages Default supported scripting languages are: Client-Side JavaScript Server-Side VB Script (Visual Basic Script) and ASP .Net Active X Libraries, Visual Basic Note:CGI is not supported.
