The UCSF School of Medicine Admissions’ website had not been redesigned
in several years. While the site contained all the necessary application
information, incoming student feedback revealed that it failed to capture
UCSF’s distinctive quality - the voices of students, faculty and
alumni.
Through user research with students and a collaborative planning process
with representatives from Education and Communications, ISU created a
plan for a new site to be released in multiple stages. The new site architecture
reflected the application process and encapsulated the information necessary
for each step onto one page, addressed applicants’ primary concerns,
and found a way to let staff, students and alumni tell the UCSF story.

- Over twice as much traffic to the site year-over-year
- Clearer navigation path for applicants with fewer searches for basic
information
