UCSF Clinical Enterprise Compliance Program

The UCSF Clinical Enterprise Compliance Program's Website is a vital part of our Systemwide Compliance Program. It has been designed to give you the information and tools you need to properly document and bill for patient care services.

UCSF is committed to the highest standards of ethics and integrity in all aspects of health care delivery. Our Compliance Program has been developed to help ensure that guidelines issued by payers (Medicare, Medi-Cal, etc.) delineating requirements for billing in an academic medical center are an integral part of the business practice of all faculty, house staff, employees and billing agents. It is within this framework of integrity and ethical behavior that our Compliance Program reiterates and clarifies the policies concerning billing for the provision of professional patient care services.

UCSF takes pride in complying with the laws and regulations which govern our activities each day and we know that each of you works very hard to support this effort. As a result of Federal legislation (Deficit Reduction Act of 2005), we wanted to advise you of some important information about our compliance program and to provide information to your and all of our contractors and agents regarding the Federal False Claims Act, administrative remedies for false claims and statements, the State False Claims Act and whistleblower protections under these laws. These laws, including our Whistleblower Protection policies, play an important role in detecting fraud, waste and abuse in federal health care programs.

Please share UCSF's Annual Deficit Reduction Act Alert with all of your employees and your billing and coding contractors and/or vendors.

We welcome your feedback and we are available to help you or address your compliance concerns. We have established a Confidential Compliance Hotline (415) 502-8448 that you can call to raise any concerns you may have.

Thank you for your ongoing support of UCSF's mission, its values and its commitment to making the right choices. By working together, we will continue to build upon UCSF's position as a leader in patient care, teaching, research and community service.
