The Medical Education Area of Concentration

Mission

The mission of the Medical Education AoC is to nurture interest and advance skills in teaching and curriculum development in medicine. For students, the AoC program will:

  • Enhance knowledge of and skills required for teaching in small groups and lectures, and for bedside and clinical skills teaching
  • Increase understanding of curricular and academic program development
  • Provide a foundation for future leadership and career development in medical education
  • Introduce students to educational research and scholarship.
General Information

The Medical Education AoC provides medical students with an opportunity to explore their interests in and advance or develop skills in medical education. For the purposes of the AoC, medical education activities are defined as those involving: (ultimately plan to have links from each of these to project ideas/ completed works, etc)

  • Direct teaching
  • Curriculum and program development
  • Advising and mentoring
  • Educational leadership
  • Educational research and scholarship

Students who have undertaken the AoC will be well positioned to effectively advance medical education at UCSF and at their future institutions (residency and beyond), thereby improving the quality of medical education and ultimately patient care.
