Student Voice: Research Like many of his classmates, Kevin Wang came to UCSF with a strong interest in scientific research. Unlike most of his peers, however, he decided to leave after his second year to pursue a Ph.D. in neurobiology at Harvard. "I think my faculty mentors would have preferred that I stay at UCSF," he admits. "But they understood my desire to gain another perspective on how science is done. And," he recalls, "they welcomed me back when I was ready to finish my medical degree." "The best thing about UCSF is the way intellectual curiosity is supported and encouraged here," he continues. "UCSF trains you to be a great, clear, critical thinker. So whether you become a researcher or a clinician, you win either way." Kevin plans to do his residency in dermatology. His goal is to open a clinic devoted to helping people of color with skin problems specific to their ethnicity, as well as a specialty "itch" clinic. And, of course, he hopes to run a lab "on the side." Kevin Wang, MD,
