participate in the work the Academy performs in pursuit of its goal
of promoting educational excellence in the UCSF community.
Academy members serve as mentors to School of Medicine faculty,
Teaching Scholars, residents and other teachers interested in developing
as teachers and assist courses, clerkships and departments in strengthening
their teaching as requested. Academy members promote and support
interdisciplinary and interdepartmental approaches to medical
education and work with the Offices of Curricular Affairs and
Medical Education and the departments to develop, implement and
evaluate improvements in the curriculum.
The Haile T. Debas Academy of Medical Educators collaborates in
the assessment of the quality of teaching and implements teaching
evaluation programs that promote teaching excellence and the academic
advancement of excellent teachers. The Academy supports the growth
of School of Medicine faculty members as teachers through formal
faculty development programs and by sponsoring educational seminars,
mentoring, teaching scholars, colloquia and retreats focused on
undergraduate medical education.
Members are expected to participate in these activities and also
to be productive citizens of the Academy by participating in the
