Innovations Funding
Open to all School of Medicine faculty, the Innovations Funding program provides intramural grants that serve as a catalyst for the development of new curricular programs and promote constructive curricular change through the development of new or improved teaching programs and learning opportunities. Since its inception, the program has granted more than $1.4 million. Projects are typically funded for one year, with the expectation that, if successful, the curricular innovation will be sustained in some other fashion.
The cycle is typically:
- 1st week of September: call for proposals emailed to all SOM faculty
- Monday, September 28, 2009: mandatory Letter of Intent due via email
- Wednesday, October 7, 2009: feedback/suggestions provided in response to letter of intent
- Friday, October 9, 2009: deadline to request Scholarship Consultation
- Monday, November 2, 2009: applications due at 5:00 pm (no exceptions)
- Wednesday, January 20, 2010: awards announced
- July 1: funding commences
Funding Priorities for Fall 2009 (funding cycle 2010-2011)
The goal of this year's round of Innovation Funding grants is to promote collaborative curriculum, assessment, and faculty development programs with a high potential to spread or generalize.
The specific areas of focus prioritized for this year's IF call are:
- Clinical education, broadly conceived
- Continued development of the Pathways to Discovery program
Regardless of a proposal's specific focus, we have a particular interest in projects that will do one or more of the following:
- involve both UME and GME learners
- represent collaborations across several departments
- experiment with innovative pedagogical approaches that strengthen peer/near-peer teaching or enable asynchronous engagement with content
Faculty whose project ideas are not related to this year's curriculum priorities are still encouraged to submit proposals. Funding will not be restricted to prioritized areas.
