The Academy's Peer Observation Teaching Observation Program (TOP)

TOP observations are conducted by Academy members at the request of individual faculty members and course/clerkship directors. Please refer to the PowerPoint presentation for a complete description of TOP and to the instructions below if you are interested in scheduling an observation for yourself or for your course.

Individuals who would like to schedule an observation please follow these steps:

1. Review the TOP PowerPoint presentation.

2. E-mail Kathleen Land with the following information:

The type of teaching session in which you would like to be observed: small group, large group, or one-on-one;

The date(s) and times you'll be teaching

Your contact information

3. Kathleen will send you a confirmation when she has matched you with an Academy mentor.

4. After the observation, you will receive an e-mail with a link to an evaluation form so that you can give us feedback on the process.

Course and Clerkship Directors who would like their faculty to be observed please follow these steps:

1. Send in Request Form for TOP to Kathleen Land 8 weeks in advance of scheduled activity.

2. Send out a commitment letter to potential TOP mentees 6-8 weeks in advance.

3. Prepare spreadsheet of committed mentees 4-6 weeks in advance and forward to Kathleen Land.

4. Send out e-mail reminder to committed TOP mentees 2 weeks in advance of TOP.
